Who We Are
Dr Carmen Boulter, PhD graduated from the School of Cultural and Language Studies in Education from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia and a Masters in Educational Psychology from the University of Alberta in Canada. Carmen has been teaching online for 14 years both in Canada and in Asia where she developed 18 original, accredited, interactive online university courses. At the University of Calgary in the Graduate Division of Educational Research, Carmen created multimedia online curriculum for 12 courses in the Masters of Education TESL Program. She taught Quantitative Research Methods to graduate students and sat on Masters thesis and PhD dissertation committees. As Director, Dr Boulter has been involved in all aspects of the vision and development of Interactive-U, including researching the theoretical position of multimedia online learning. In her PhD dissertation, she developed the concept of cross-disciplinary, interactive teaching using multimedia. Carmen is Director, Producer, and Writer of The Pyramid Code 5-episode documentary series that has aired on national TV in 38 countries and is on Netflix around the world. Carmen worked as a psychologist for 17 years and was Founder and Director of the Women's Therapy and Research Center. She is author of the ground-breaking book Angels and Archetypes: An Evolutionary Map of Feminine Consciousness.
Laurie Simons, MA earned a Masters Degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences from Whitworth College. Her experience as foster parent of a child with special needs led her to pursue a career as a counselor specializing in children with challenging behaviors. Laurie was licensed as a Psychologist in Alberta in 1982 and as a Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington in 1994. For over 30 years she has provided parent counseling and teacher training, most recently using the Dr. Ross Greene model of solving problems collaboratively, a humane and skill building approach that sidesteps rewards and consequences resulting in increased affinity between adults and children, while finding more durable solutions. Throughout her career, Laurie has participated in Landmark Education and has engaged in extensive volunteer activities. She has been involved in a number of non-profit organizations as Founder, President, Board Chair, and Secretary, and has actively participated in board development and fundraising. Laurie has worked in clinical settings and school settings in leadership and supervisory roles. She earned a certificate of training in Advanced Track Video/TV Production at Bellevue College. She has produced, directed, and edited dozens of short educational, promotional, and documentary films, as well as a feature film, The Healthcare Movie which has been adopted as an advocacy tool by activists throughout the US.
Kaliptus, MFA is a visionary artist born in Lisbon, Portugal. He is a New York graduate from the School of Visual Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in animation and a Masters of Fine Arts in computer art. Kaliptus is a prolific, multimedia fine-artist who spends most of his time bridging the intuitive and the technical to create works of art that reveal the transpersonal realms of consciousness. Recently, Kaliptus has shown his work at the Museum of Modern Art, Alex Grey's Chapel of Scared Mirrors, Good Thieves Press Gallery, Orchard Windows Gallery, Dino Eli Gallery, Family Business Gallery, and more. His works were featured in New York Magazine, Beautiful Decay, Arte Fuze, SolPurpose, Threyda, Infinite Bit, and Wave Art Culture. Kali is currently living in New Jersey as a self-employed freelance artist. He works part time at the Barat Foundation as an Art Director and he continually works on a wide variety of projects from his studio. Kali is the Interactive-U multimedia artist responsible for the design of the Course logos and Faculty animations displayed on the I-U website. Kali will be teaching MEDIA 152: Digital Animation Basics for Interactive-U.
Terry Sterrenberg, MSW is a relationship specialist and couples' Counselor. His expertise is helping couples bring joy and friendship into their relationships through understanding and using effective, research-based relationship strategies. Terry has over 30 years of counseling experience helping individuals, couples, and families with issues such as depression, coping with grief and loss, parenting issues, premarital relationship enrichment, marital difficulties, job-related issues and adult adjustment concerns. His specialty is enhancing couple relationships, using a positive, dynamic, educational approach. He uses a variety of techniques developed by John Gottman and others to teach skills. His goal is for clients to be able to use these skills as a matter of course in their daily lives. Terry discovered a passion for counseling during 10 years of pastoral ministry. Then, he attended the University of Calgary and received his Masters of Social Work in 1989. He is part of the group of clinicians formed in 1999 by John and Julie Gottman and has been participating in training and consultation with the Gottman Institute since that time. Terry is the Co-Producer and Marketing Director for The Healthcare Movie. He brings his social media, filmmaking, and marketing expertise to Interactive-U. Terry will also be available for consultations to Students at I-U.
